Overview

The SS7 Architecture

    Service Switching Point (SSP) -- The Service Switching Point (SSP) is the local exchange in the telephone network.

    Service Control Point (SCP) -- The Service Control Point (SCP) serves as an interface to telephone company databases.
    Components of the SCP
    • CMSDB - Call Management Services Database
    • LNP - Local Number Portability
    • LIDB - Line Information Database
    • BSDB - Business Services Database
    • HLR - Home Location Register
    • VLR - Visitor Location Register

    Signal Transfer Point (STP) -- All SS7 packets travel from one SSP to another through the services of a Signal Transfer Point (STP).
