Upgrading the Next-generation Network Part III

SIP Signaling Router Use Cases

This paper, the third in a multi-part series, provides examples and the associated benefits of deploying SIP signaling router functionality in next-generation networks.

Upgrading the Next-generation Network Part III

The current NGN architecture has no core signaling infrastructure, which greatly limits expansion capabilities. Deploying a SIP signaling router (SSR) function enables operators to cost effectively upgrade and expand the network and introduce IMS technology. This paper, the third in a multipart series, discusses the use cases and associated benefits of the SIP signaling router, including:

  • Session management for multimedia SIP endpoints
  • Centralized softswitch routing
  • Centralized application management
  • Number-portability aware session routing
  • Protocol interworking proxy
