Home Subscriber Server (HSS)

The IMS HSS uniquely addresses the challenges of transitioning to an all-IP core with IMS networks. Unlike traditional vendors, the IMS HSS and HLR are fully integrated making a seamless evolution from existing to next-generation networks. The architecture leverages a converged database across all domains and supports the delivery of IMS services. The IMS HSS can also interface with the existing HLRs of the service provider’s network.

This product was also built with a next-generation mentality, and is therefore fully compliant with 3GPP IMS specifications. Furthermore, it offers full support for TISPAN for fixed line connectivity, PacketCable for cable telephony devices, and 3GPP2 MMD for mobile user equipment. With support for both IETF and 3GPP SIP-centric networks, the IMS HSS is also compatible with rapidly growing WiFi and WiMAX networks. With the consolidation of the LTE HSS and SIP-AS, alongside the HSS, Tekelec enables support for VoLTE and IMS service delivery over LTE networks.

The IMS HSS is designed to be an extendable data store, called the SDS, for various other types of applications, and its data repository has already been successfully integrated with applications from various market-leading vendors. The scalability and flexibility of the database allows it to be extended as variations of subscriber repositories, and support easy plug-in of value-add services (VAS) enabling the delivery of revenue-generating applications over next-generation networks – this is unmatched by any other vendor in the industry.

Benefits

  • Seamless Mobility and Service Continuity: The IMS HSS function can either work standalone or can be integrated and interworked with HLR/AuC and Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) SIP-based Server. This provides operators with a seamless evolution from previous networks (non-IP) to next-generation (IP) solutions and facilitates a controlled migration to IMS networks.
  • Integrated Support: The IMS HSS has integrated support for Subscription Locator Function (SLF) and the ENUM Server, all within the same software and hardware stream. These functions can be activated with a simple software license key.
  • Simplified Management and Provisioning: The unique IMS Service Profile Template (SPT) Tool, allows a simplified management and provision of complex IMPI, IMPU, SP, iFC, and SPT relationships
  • Converged Platform: The HSS is built on the same platform alongside the HLR, LTE HSS, FMC SIP Server, AAA server, and other subscriber profile management applications.
  • Flexibility and Accessibility: The solution offers generic access to data via a suite of external APIs e.g. XML/SOAP, LDAP etc. This enables the service providers to customize the database for a more tailored IMS solution.
