Morrisville, NC (Tuesday, February 05, 2008)
Further solidifying its leadership position in Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), Tekelec (NASDAQ:TKLC) today announced it has recently acquired substantially all of the assets of Estacado Systems, LLC, a software development company led by a team that has been instrumental in the creation of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and a number of its advanced features.
“As the world leader in signaling, Tekelec is known for innovation and aggressive R&D investment,” said Frank Plastina, president and CEO, Tekelec. “As networks continue to migrate, our customers depend on us to provide them with the industry’s most advanced signaling solutions. With this acquisition, we’re extending our depth in SIP-based intellectual property – bringing some of the industry’s most talented and well known SIP experts in house – to accelerate the development of next-generation and IMS solutions for our customers.”
Estacado Systems was established in 2004 by a team of SIP pioneers including Ajay Deo, Ben Campbell, Adam Roach and Robert Sparks. Members of the company’s executive team are key players in the industry, promoting SIP as the broadly accepted standard for next-generation signaling. They continue to serve on the SIP Forum and chair several Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) working groups, along with authoring over 20 Requests for Comment (RFCs). Their deep expertise also includes SIMPLE-based presence and instant messaging and broadband VoIP networking. In addition, they have substantial experience in related technologies, such as 3GPP IMS subsystems. The core team also contributed to the design, development and deployment of one of the earliest IMS networks in the United States.
The Estacado team, which will remain based in Dallas, Texas, complements Tekelec’s world-class engineering talent and the earlier acquisition of iptelorg GMBH, while bolstering the company’s arsenal of next-generation signaling solutions.
