Tekelec, VocalData Showcase Combined Next-Generation Switching Solutions at Fall VON

Expanded feature sets for VoIP, Voice over Wi-Fi; SIP enhancements; Session Border Control capabilities enable advanced business, residential services


BOSTON (Monday, October 18, 2004) Following the recent addition of VocalData and its market-leading hosted IP telephony applications solutions, Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC) will showcase enhanced next-generation switching capabilities with new feature sets enabled by VocalData’s application server during Fall Voice on the Net (Oct. 18-21, 2004)in Boston.

Tekelec and VocalData have two exhibits at VON (booths 318 and 424), featuring new VocalData session initiation protocol (SIP)-based capabilities and its Web portal combined with Tekelec’s switching platforms. The company also will announce several customer and partner collaborations.

Tekelec is further enhancing its existing switching solutions for small and large operators to transform their networks for next-generation services with a full business voice services offering that includes revenue-generating features and services via the SIP-based application server. At the booth 318, the company will highlight solutions enabled by its purpose-built switching platforms, including:

  • Live Demo of VocalData Web Portal. The integration of VocalData’s application server provides new services for operators to generate new revenue opportunities. Tekelec will demonstrate the Web portal with an IP phone to show an enhanced customer experience and easy access to features.
  • Session Border Control.Tekelec is delivering robust session border control features in a highly reliable, scalable solution that meets the

    demands of large carrier networks.

  • Voice-over-Wi-Fi. Tekelec is using its knowledge of signaling and switching networks to create solutions that enable wireless operators to leverage Wi-Fi and other emerging technologies to increase network coverage and lower costs.
  • Wireless Media Gateway. With this solution, Tekelec is helping operators realize a full suite of functions for 2G, 2.5G and 3G switching to address network expansion and new subscriber services.
  • Ubiquitous Hosted Services. Tekelec provides a cost-effective, single platform solution for operators to deliver an extended set of services to traditional and VoIP customers, using the Tekelec SS7 (signaling system 7)

    Gateway to access VocalData’s application server.

At the booth 424, Tekelec and VocalData will feature new SIP enhancements and hosted IP telephony services integrated with Version 5 of VocalData’s application server, including:

  • New SIP-based Conferencing Solution. Integrated with Convedia’s award-winning media servers, this solution provides a cost-effective platform for operators to deploy conferencing solutions.
  • Live Demo of SIP Softphones and Videoconferencing. Xten’s X-PRO softphone and eyeBeam SIP Video over IP softphone will be featured, demonstrating how end users can access VocalData’s hosted PBX features from personal computers.
  • Live demos of Wi-Fi PDA softphone, Instant Messenger (IM) integration and interoperability with all key IP end point protocols, including SIP, media gateway control protocol (MGCP), simple client control protocol (SCCP) and MiNet IP protocol.
